So for one of my electives I chose to do Jewellery, which means that we can design our own pieces using different materials and methods. As part of an assessment, our teacher took us to the Powerhouse Museum to see the exhibition A Fine Possession - Jewellery & Identity. This exhibition consisted of Jewellery pieces both from Traditional times and from the Modern time, both times being both equally stunning. The above photograph of the Satine necklace was designed and made for the award winning film Moulin Rouge, directed by Baz Luhrman. Canturi Jewels made two necklaces for the film, a diamond necklace and this exact replica used as a stunt double. This necklace joins over 700 other rarely seen treasures including the Wattle Spray brooch, presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Australian government during her visit in 1954, this brooch is only on display for three months and when we visited this exhibition we were lucky enough to see the original brooch. The above photos don't do the Jewellery pieces justice and it saying this, I would highly recommend visiting this exhibition to look at how much Jewellery has changed over the years. Overall I had an amazing day looking at all the amazing designs and Jewellery pieces, the exhibition doesn't finish till 20th September 2015 so if you get a second I recommend going and having a look around at all the Jewellery pieces.
With Love XOXO
